As of December 1, 2018, I start a four-year research position at LMU Munich for a project called "media people" (Medienmenschen). It is part of a larger research cluster on "the media legacy of the GDR" consisting of eight projects divided between three institutions of higher education in Germany (LMU in Munich, Free University in Berlin, and the Institute of Contemporary History in Postdam). My specific project asks if and how having been socializing in socialist East Germany influences media producers/production (broad definition: journalists, directors, or small scale celebrities) in their sense of i.e. aesthetics, text or content. The project will likely consist of around 30 biographical interviews and an analysis of the produced media in question. Updates will be posted here.
